RPIG (Poland)

At SGGW there are 17 Faculties offering under-, graduate and post-graduate courses. The Faculty of Economic Sciences has the leading position in Poland in the field of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management. Many research projects is carried out and implemented for farmers, agro-food industry or public bodies involved in policy on agriculture with the aim of promoting the technical, economic and social progress in livestock sector and the diffusion of the most advanced forms of eco-sustainable agricultural production.

Expertise

Many international and national research projects is carried out and implemented for farmers, agro-food industry or public bodies involved in policy on agriculture with the aim of promoting the technical, economic and social progress in livestock sector and the diffusion of the most advanced forms of eco-sustainable agricultural production.

The Faculty’s staff provides a wide range of expertise in such areas as:  Sustainable Agriculture; multifunctional rural development;  agricultural and environmental policies; Common Agricultural Policy impacts on Polish Agriculture; farm, agribusiness and chain management and marketing.

Involvement

SGGW, RPIG leader in Poland, will be responsible for liaison with the EU PiG Ambassadors and undertaking and reporting economic analysis.

SGGW will be involved in work package 3 (Precision Pig Production), and work package 4 (Welfare), and will validate on farm best practices. An economic cost-benefit analysis will be carried out. Investments and operational costs of the practice adopted will be quantified taking into account national variations in direct costs (labour and capital) and other factors (such as feed, energy, manure disposal etc). Benefits will be assessed in terms of increased efficiency and better market prices.

SGGW will support the development of the technical reports by providing content developed in corresponding tasks. 

Our team

Monika Gębska, Researcher and Teacher

Monika Gębska (PhD) who will participate in the project is a zootechnician and economist with a career in university research. She graduated from Faculty of Animal Sciences at University of Life Sciences. She has got broad experience in teaching to adults; university students, farmers, operators. She conducts classes in agricultural economics, management of agriculture. Since 1996 she has worked at Warsaw University of Life Sciences at Faculty of Economics. For the last ten years she has done research of social and economic aspects of animal production and animal welfare. In this area she has worked on 10 international projects.

Edward Majewski, Professor

Professor and researcher at the Faculty of Economics. He received fellowships at SAC Aberdeen (Scotland) and Yale University (USA). Among the research interests dominate: sustainable development (Sustainable Development), the impact of changes in agricultural policies on the situation of Polish agriculture, economics of animal production. Coordinator and performer in several national and international research projects, author of numerous expert studies and consulting. Member of the network of independent experts of the European Commission DG VI in 2001-2003.

Barbara Gołębiewska, Professor

She has been working at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Life Sciences since 1988. Teaching: Economics of enterprise, economic analysis and business financing. Research activity includes such issues as economics and organization of households, farms and agricultural environment. She is the author of about 100 publications, including 17 books and scripts, 73 original creative papers and 21 popular scientific publications. She participated in the implementation of 12 research projects in 1996-2013.

Anna Grontkowska, Teacher and Researcher

She has been working at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Life Sciences since 1989. Teaching: Economics of enterprise, economic analysis and business financing. Research activity includes such issues as economics and organization of farms, production economics, economics of different technology of production. She is the author of about 120 publications, including 10 books and scripts. She participated in the implementation of two research projects.
